Photo: Clearing the way for returning Sockeye

Michael Penn / Juneau Empire
Matt Lubejko, a fisheries technician for the U.S. Forest Service, clears debris from a seasonal fish weir at the mouth of Steep Creek at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitors Center on Friday. The weir funnels migrating fish past a underwater camera to identify and count the numbers of fish returning to the area. As of Friday 390 sockeye salmon had made it to their spawning grounds.
